Epson Stylus Pro 4000 printing to dark & too much contrast.?
My epson 4000 pro all of sudden started printing grays black and every thing else very contrasty. I use Snow Leopard and my settings are on, let Photoshop manage colors and on perceptual. I do have 2 colors which are low, BK & Y, but both of those colors are showing up in fact too much BK is showing up. I have the correct papers selected. It happens on various papers. Can anyone help me?
Whew... that is a tough nut to crack, and I will not pretend to be any kind of expert on color management. It is truly the "black art" of digital photography. I will just state my limited knowledge. Hopefully, some more helpful answers will come your way.
You are making no mention of any calibration equipment used. Monitors do not hold their color the same all their lifespan. You need to at least use a good calibration tool on your monitor, and the profile set up by that tool will be your default color profile. I stop at that point, because I use an outside lab for prints, (Mpix). I have prints that are for all intents and purposes an exact match to what I see on my monitor.
As you are doing your own printing, then you are going to have to take things further and also do a color calibration and profile on your printer. These calibration kits will allow you to print out a test color chart and you will scan that with the calibration tool that will read just how close or far your colors are from what they should be.
That is just the tip of the ice burg on this. I suggest you look up color management in Google and also visit a good photography supply store online such as BH to look at various color and printer calibration devices available.
