how can I catch a black drum off a texas pier in the gulf?
I need to know the size and type of hooks, the type of bait and the best time to try for this fish?
I have always fished for them in Florida, but the technique should be the same. I use size 1/0 hooks with a 1/4 inch weight stopped with a bead 6 inches from the hook . I fish off the bottom with live shrimp that I have cut into smaller sections. Drums, red and black, like to feed on the bottom so if you are going to use a lure like a jig you need to make sure you just bounce it along the bottom. The best time is while the tide is moving. I have found that the faster the tide is moving (in or out) the better luck I have. You should be able to check a local paper for tide times. The fish move with the tide, so when the tide is changing (dead tide) the fishing is usually not that good.Good Luck.
